Day 83/ 365 – First experience with L series lens

As mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I recently went to Bhigwan to do some bird photography. I currently own 55-250mm lens, but for the trip it was not going to be good enough. So I decided to hire a zoom lens from Primes and Zooms in Pune. I knew I wanted a minimum 400mm lens and decided to rent 100mm – 400mm L series lens. This was my first time using the lens. The good thing about renting from Primes and Zooms is that they allow to pick up the lens an evening in advance. Since the trip was on Sunday, I picked up the lens on Saturday evening and decided to test it out. I wanted to get comfortable using the lens before taking it to Bhigwan. I took the lens and went to the park in Magarpatta city and decided to shoot some pictures. Initially I was not able to focus properly as I was not used this such a heavy lens. Also at 400 mm the pics were appearing shaking. Thats when I realized that due to involuntary movement, the pictures were a little blurry. So I decided to tighten my shoulders a little bit so the lens has better support and that solved the problem of blurry images. The only problem which I faced after taking pictures continuously for an hour or so, was my left wrist which I used to hold the lens started paining. Otherwise, everything was perfectly fine. The only thing that I missed out was – I should have read the features of the lens before renting it out as I would have been able to utilize it optimally. I am definitely going to that next time. Sharing some pictures which I took with this lens before taking it to Bhigwan.

Day 82/ 365 – Hamari Atariya

I heard the snippet of this song while driving to work today. At first, I felt as if I had heard the voice before and then after a few minutes realized it is Rekha Bharadwaj. She has got one of the most melodious voices and the rustic type of songs which she sings really goes well with her voice. The lyrics are penned by Gulzar and they are awesome. I wonder how does he come up with such lyrics year after year for so many years. The lyrics along with the translation are given below. (courtesy: Bollynook.com)

Hmm… Hmm… Hmm…

Saj Ke Sajaaye Baithi
After decorating myself, I’m sitting
Saasan De Bulaaye Baithi
I’m sitting with a lost breath
Kahaan Gum Hua Anjaana…
Where has my lover disappeared?

Arre Arre Diye Bhi Jalaye Re Jalaye Na
I’ve burned lot of oil lamps
Atariya Pe Aaya Parwana
But my Parwana (lover) hasn’t come to my balcony

Kaun Sa Tann Hai… Bharmaaye Re…
Why is my body feeling restlessness?
Hamari Atariya Pe, Aaja Re Saanwariya
Come on my balcony, O my lover!
Dekha Dekhi Tanik Hui Jaaye
So that we can have a meeting
(So that we can see each other for a short while)
Hamari Atariya Pe, Aaja Re Saanwariya
Come on my balcony, O my lover!
Dekha Dekhi Tanik Hui Jaaye
So that we can have a meeting
Hamari Atariya Pe…
On my balcony

Kiwadiya Se Latke Piya, Kare Jhaanka Jhaanki
From the doorway, my beloved throws sharp gazes at me
Bohat Kaudi Phenke Piya
He tries to flirt with me a lot
Uda De Jahaan Ki
And rubbishes about the world

Haaye… Kiwadiya Se Latke Piya, Kare Jhaanka Jhaanki
From the doorway, my beloved throws sharp gazes at me
Bohat Kaudi Phenke Piya
He tries to flirt with me a lot
Uda De Jahaan Ki
And rubbishes about the world
Kasam Deve Jaan Ki
He even promises to sacrifice his life in love

Aaja Gilauri Khila Doon Kimami
Come, let me make You eat Gilauri with Kimam
(Gilauri is also known as Paan/Betel Leaf which is an Indian mouth freshner,
whereas Kimam is an intoxicant and a fragrant used in it)
Laali Pe Laali Tanik Hoi Jaaye
So that Your lips will have a red glow/colour for a while
Aaja Gilauri Khila Doon Kimami
Come, let me make You eat Gilauri with Kimam
Laali Pe Laali Tanik Hoi Jaaye
So that Your lips will have a red glow for a while
Hamari Atariya Pe…
On my balcony

Padosan Ke Gharwa Jaiho, Jaiho Na Saanwariya
Don’t go to the home of the neighbour, my beloved
Sautan Sapoli Mori, Kaate Jahariya
She is like a poisonous snake (like a mistress), who bites me
Jeheri Najariya…
With her a venomous gaze

Aaja Atariya Pe Pila Doon Angoori
Come on my balcony, let me make You have Angoori
(Angoori is an Indian dessert made from cottage cheese, soaked in a sugary syrup
and rolled in fine sugar to form grape-sized balls)
Jora Jori Tanik Hui Jaaye
So that we’ll have a small amount of tussle
Aaja Atariya Pe Pila Doon Angoori
Come on my balcony, let me make You have Angoori
Jora Jori Tanik Hui Jaaye…
So that we’ll have a small amount of tussle

Hamari Atariya Pe, Aaja Re Saanwariya
Come on my balcony, O my lover!
Dekha Dekhi Tanik Hui Jaaye
So that we can have a meeting
Hamari Atariya Pe…
On my balcony

Saajne Lagaye Baithi
After decorating myself, I’m sitting
Chutiya Ghumaye Baithi
After tying my hair, I’m sitting

Kahan Ghum Hua An… Jaa… Na…
Where has my lover disappeared?

Kaun Sa Tann Hai… Bharmaaye Re…
Why is my body feeling restlessness?

Day 81/ 365 – Will the Indian Bowlers please stand up?

Just been extremely disappointed with the current performance of the Indian bowlers. I can’t recollect in any of the recent matches where we have conceded less than 300 runs while bowling first (today being an exception, since NZ only had 280 runs to win), putting tremendous on our batsmen. It seems they cant figure out where to bowl and I am not sure if anyone is even guiding them. If yes, then they dont seem to be implementing that guidance. I cant figure out for the love of God, why is Ishant Sharma still getting selected in the one day team. He really needs to figure out how to bowl, because sometimes it seems that he is absolutely clueless on what to bowl and where to bowl. Only one fast bowler seems like doing a reasonable job and that it seems to Mohd. Shami, however, it seems that he has taken over Ishant’s mantle of bowling wayward in the last couple of games. Bhuvneshwar Kumar does not have the pace without the swing is not a threat at all. On these pitches in the upcoming World Cup, I am not sure how useful he is going to be. What we need is someone who is out and out fast, someone like Mitchell Johnson or a Dale Steyn who even on a bad day are able to scare some batsmen and get wickets. I cant understand why we never have those types of bowlers. I mean we have one of the best pace academies of the world and yet don’t produce a world class genuine fast bowler.

The positives that I see is that we have exactly one year  to rectify all these issues. The wickets in Australia and New Zealand don’t have a lot of swing, but have a lot of bounce and carry and we need to have bowlers who are able to use that. I think this defeat should act as an eye opener for the Indian team and hopefully they get their act together. If not, it is going to be a very bad World Cup for us and we will end up losing the title of World Champions.
