Bahubali 2 – The Conclusion

Ever since the first movie was released, there has been a lot of anticipation for the release of the 2nd movie. I didn’t watch the first movie when it was released. A lot of my friends told me it is a very good movie, but I never had the opportunity to see the movie. And ever since the 2nd movie has been released, it has been breaking box office records everywhere. I watched this movie the day it was released in New York and since then have been going gaga over every bit of the movie. I think I have always loved movies about mythological characters or characters with super powers (no wonder I love all the Marvel movies). I also love reading about mythological characters – explains my love for reading books written by Amish. This explains why I love this movie so much. This is the only Hindi dubbed movie where I have even seen the original Telegu version of the movie as well (obviously with subtitles). It seems to me that everything was perfect in the movie – the story, the characters, the acting, the songs, the background music – everything was just perfect. I have been listening to the Hindi songs of the movie on loop and now Telegu songs as well. My wife says I have taken crazy to the next level because I have probably seen all of their trailers, watched the movie twice (Hindi + Telegu) and watched a lot of the interviews of the actors (things that I have never done for any other movie) and trailer reactions as well. Some of my favorite scenes in the movie are – the introduction of Devsena, fight with Pindharis and fight in the end between Rana and Prabhas (this was just too good).

I really feel that the characters were extremely developed, could be related to and the acting by Prabhas, Rana and Sathyaraj was extremely good. The character of Prabhas (Amarendra Bahuabali) as the righteous son, husband and king was something that any guy could relate to. However, I feel the character of his son could have been developed further. From a character development standpoint, he was completed overshadowed by his father. The VFX effects were also extremely well done for a Indian movie and combined with awesome music by MM Keervani can give any Hollywood movie a run for the money. The entire movie has been released in 4K format and looks really awesome when seen on the big screen. All in all it is one of the best Indian movies to be released after a long time and even though at some stages it was a bit over the top, I have to say no Bollywood can ever come this close to this movie.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan poem

I was listening to radio today and heard this poem and instantly felt like blogging about this. The constant thump of Royal Enfield (Military Green) can be heard in the background throughout the video. The scenes in the video reminds me of the road trip from Manali to Ladakh – though we didn’t do it on the bike – the drive was equally pleasurable. The poem is extremely heart touching and I have listened to it a couple of times in the day already.

Teri aankhon ki namkeen mastiyan
Teri hansi ki beparwaah gustakhiyaan
Teri zulfon ki leharaati angdaiyaan
Nahi bhoolunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan

Tera haath se haath chhodna
Tera saayon se rukh modna
Tera palat ke phir na dekhna
Nahin maaf karunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan

Baarishon mein bedhadak tere naachne se
Baat baat pe bewajah tere roothne se
Chhoti chhoti teri bachkani badmashiyon se
Mohabbat karunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan..

Tere jhoothe kasme vaadon se
Tere jalte sulagte khwabon se
Teri be-raham duaaon se
Nafrat karunga main
Jab tak hai jaan, jab tak hai jaan

Channa Mereya

The title of the song “Channa Mereya” mean “My Moon”. This song is from the upcoming movie “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil”. I heard this song a couple of days back and since then have been hooked on to it. There is something about Arijit Singh’s voice and the fact that the lyrics are equally good which has got me drawn to it. I think this has to be one of Arijit Singh’s best songs ever.

One of the best lines from the song..

“Andhera tera maine le liya
Mera ujla sitaara tere naam kiya”

and another one..

“Tere rukh se apna raasta
Mod ke chala
Chandan hoon main..
Apni khushboo chhod ke chala”

Enjoy the lyrics video

Sanam Re

I heard this song yesterday for the first time and since then I have been playing the song in repeat mode. Arijit Singh is simply awesome!! I wish to see him live in concert one day. My cousin attended one of his concerts and was completely blown away by his performance.

O ho…

Bheegi bheegi sadkon pe main
Tera intezaar karun
Dheere dheere dil ki zameen ko
Tere hi naam karun

Khudko main yoon kho doon
Ke phir na kabhi paaun
Haule haule zindagi ko
Ab tere hawaale karun

Sanam re, sanam re
Tu mera sanam hua re
Sanam re, sanam re
Tu mera sanam hua re
Karam re, karam re
Tera mujhpe karam hua re

Sanam re, sanam re
Tu mera sanam hua re

O ho…

Tere kareeb jo hone laga hoon
To toote saare bharam re

Sanam re, sanam re
Tu mera sanam hua re
Sanam re, sanam re
Tu mera sanam hua re

O ho…

Baadalon ki tarah hi toh
Tune mujhpe saaya kiya hai
Baarishon ki tarah hi toh
Tune khushiyon se bhigaya hai
Aandhiyon ki tarah hi toh
Tune hosh ko udaaya hai

Mera muqaddar sanwara hai yoon
Naya savera jo laaya hai tu
Tere sang hi bitaane hain mujhko
Mere saare janam re

Sanam re, sanam re (sanam re..)
Tu mera sanam hua re
Sanam re, sanam re (sanam re..)
Tu mera sanam hua re
Karam re, karam re (karam re..)
Tera mujhpe karam hua re
Sanam re, sanam re (sanam re..)
Tu mera sanam hua re

O ho…

Mere sanam re mera hua re
Tera karam re mujhpe hua ye (x2)

I had seen the trailer of this movie a couple of months ago and was excited by the pairing of Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar – two of of my favorite actors. I decided to watch the movie over the weekend and needless to say it is one of the better movies to have been released in the recent months. The acting by all the characters in the movie is simply awesome. Farhan Akhtar pulls of the role of an angry young man effortlessly. Amitabh Bachchan as usual is flawless. I think he is like wine, keeps getting better with age. The best part of the movie are it’s dialogues and that too when said by Amitabh Bachchan in his deep baritone – just sounds amazing. Neil Nitin Mukesh and John Abraham have a special appearance.  The story is predictable but the way it has been portrayed using the game of chess is the most brilliant part of the movie. I do not want to share movie details here – but this is definitely one of the movies that you shouldn’t miss out on watching.

Day 96/ 365 – Movie Review Highway

Last Sunday, I finally got to see the movie Highway. I had been wanting to see the movie since the day it was released especially after watching the trailers. I found the movie to be a one time watch. Why you may ask? To know why..Continue reading ahead.

Warning: Spoiler alert.

The movie is about a rich girl in Delhi who feels trapped in her palatial house and how everyone expects her to behave nicely and in a sophisticated manner. The rich girl is on the verge of getting married and decides to sneak out of the house with her fiancée for a night drive in his car. While on the drive they stop to fill up petrol at the fuel station on the highway. Unknown to the rich girl and her fiancée there is a robbery going on at the same fuel station and robbers kidnap the rich girl. Thus begins the ordeal of the rich girl who is now kidnapped and travelling with the robbers. Initially she makes an attempt or two to escape, however, with the robbers  she finally feels free and starts expressing herself the way she wants. She starts feeling secured her kidnapper and asks him to not leave her, even though the leader of the gang tells her that he is not a good person and has even murdered people. They explore various places together and all the while the police is hot on their tail.

What I liked about the movie, the cinematography is absolutely brilliant. It is one of the movies that would make you want to forget travelling abroad and just explore India in its entirety on the road. The performance by Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda is also extremely good. Alia is extremely talented for someone so young and is definitely one to look out for. Randeep Hooda, plays a Gujjar to perfection.

I found the movie to be a bit long and found during some points that the story was not going anywhere. I would probably rate the movie as 6.5 on 10.

Day 82/ 365 – Hamari Atariya

I heard the snippet of this song while driving to work today. At first, I felt as if I had heard the voice before and then after a few minutes realized it is Rekha Bharadwaj. She has got one of the most melodious voices and the rustic type of songs which she sings really goes well with her voice. The lyrics are penned by Gulzar and they are awesome. I wonder how does he come up with such lyrics year after year for so many years. The lyrics along with the translation are given below. (courtesy: Bollynook.com)

Hmm… Hmm… Hmm…

Saj Ke Sajaaye Baithi
After decorating myself, I’m sitting
Saasan De Bulaaye Baithi
I’m sitting with a lost breath
Kahaan Gum Hua Anjaana…
Where has my lover disappeared?

Arre Arre Diye Bhi Jalaye Re Jalaye Na
I’ve burned lot of oil lamps
Atariya Pe Aaya Parwana
But my Parwana (lover) hasn’t come to my balcony

Kaun Sa Tann Hai… Bharmaaye Re…
Why is my body feeling restlessness?
Hamari Atariya Pe, Aaja Re Saanwariya
Come on my balcony, O my lover!
Dekha Dekhi Tanik Hui Jaaye
So that we can have a meeting
(So that we can see each other for a short while)
Hamari Atariya Pe, Aaja Re Saanwariya
Come on my balcony, O my lover!
Dekha Dekhi Tanik Hui Jaaye
So that we can have a meeting
Hamari Atariya Pe…
On my balcony

Kiwadiya Se Latke Piya, Kare Jhaanka Jhaanki
From the doorway, my beloved throws sharp gazes at me
Bohat Kaudi Phenke Piya
He tries to flirt with me a lot
Uda De Jahaan Ki
And rubbishes about the world

Haaye… Kiwadiya Se Latke Piya, Kare Jhaanka Jhaanki
From the doorway, my beloved throws sharp gazes at me
Bohat Kaudi Phenke Piya
He tries to flirt with me a lot
Uda De Jahaan Ki
And rubbishes about the world
Kasam Deve Jaan Ki
He even promises to sacrifice his life in love

Aaja Gilauri Khila Doon Kimami
Come, let me make You eat Gilauri with Kimam
(Gilauri is also known as Paan/Betel Leaf which is an Indian mouth freshner,
whereas Kimam is an intoxicant and a fragrant used in it)
Laali Pe Laali Tanik Hoi Jaaye
So that Your lips will have a red glow/colour for a while
Aaja Gilauri Khila Doon Kimami
Come, let me make You eat Gilauri with Kimam
Laali Pe Laali Tanik Hoi Jaaye
So that Your lips will have a red glow for a while
Hamari Atariya Pe…
On my balcony

Padosan Ke Gharwa Jaiho, Jaiho Na Saanwariya
Don’t go to the home of the neighbour, my beloved
Sautan Sapoli Mori, Kaate Jahariya
She is like a poisonous snake (like a mistress), who bites me
Jeheri Najariya…
With her a venomous gaze

Aaja Atariya Pe Pila Doon Angoori
Come on my balcony, let me make You have Angoori
(Angoori is an Indian dessert made from cottage cheese, soaked in a sugary syrup
and rolled in fine sugar to form grape-sized balls)
Jora Jori Tanik Hui Jaaye
So that we’ll have a small amount of tussle
Aaja Atariya Pe Pila Doon Angoori
Come on my balcony, let me make You have Angoori
Jora Jori Tanik Hui Jaaye…
So that we’ll have a small amount of tussle

Hamari Atariya Pe, Aaja Re Saanwariya
Come on my balcony, O my lover!
Dekha Dekhi Tanik Hui Jaaye
So that we can have a meeting
Hamari Atariya Pe…
On my balcony

Saajne Lagaye Baithi
After decorating myself, I’m sitting
Chutiya Ghumaye Baithi
After tying my hair, I’m sitting

Kahan Ghum Hua An… Jaa… Na…
Where has my lover disappeared?

Kaun Sa Tann Hai… Bharmaaye Re…
Why is my body feeling restlessness?

Day 73/ 365 – Some of my favorite Hindi movie dialogues

A couple of weeks ago, a 3D version of Sholay – one of the movies made in the 1970’s was released. The movie was superhit when it was released, smashing all records and was playing at Maratha Mandir continously for 3 years (before being overtaken by DDLJ). The movie had some of the best dialogues like “Kitne aadmi the” and “Yeh haath mujhe dede Thakur” and many more. This got me thinking and decided to write this post highlighting the 10 best dialogues from Hindi movies which I like:

  1. Ye bachchon ke khelne ki cheez nahin, haath kat jae to khoon nikal ata hai… – Waqt (1965)
  2. Babumoshai, zindagi aur maut uparwale ke haath hai. Usse na aap badal sakte hain na main –  Anand (1971)
  3. Aap ke paon dekhey, bahut haseen hain, inhen zameen par mat utariyega, maile ho jayengey – Pakeezah (1972)
  4. Saara shaher mujhe loin ke naam se jaanta hai Kalicharan (1976)
  5. Mere paas maa hai – Deewar (1975)
  6. Don ko pakadna mushkil hi nahi, namumkin hai Don (1978)
  7. Draupadi tere akele ki nahi hai, hum sab shareholder hain Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron (1983)
  8. Jab yeh dhaai kilo ka haath kisipe padta hain, toh aadmi uthta nahi, uth jaata hai – Damini (1993)
  9. Teja main hoon, mark idhar hai – Andaz Apna Apna (1994)
  10. Koi baat nahi Senorita, bade bade deshon main aisi chhoti chhoti baatein hoti rehti hai Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1994)

Day 69/ 365 – Superhero Identity

So I received the below image on my WhatsApp today and it made me wonder why did Ironman disclose his identity. If you look at any of the superhero’s like Batman, Superman, Spiderman – they have always tried to withhold their identity so that the enemies wont harm their loved ones.  In the first movie, we see Ironman announce to the world that he is Ironman. This is in spite of the fact that he had just saved Pepper Potts from  Obadiah Stane. Also once he announced to the world that he is Ironman, obviously he became a target for everyone and in the process endangering the lives of people around him. I find it a bit odd as it flies against the traditional logic of being a superhero. I am not sure how disclosing his name really impacted the good deeds that he planned to do or was doing. Or was it purely to increase the stock price of his company since the company stocks had tanked after Tony Stark announces that Stark Industries would no longer be manufacturing weapons? Or was it simply his ego? What do you think?
